Rioja wine

Rioja wine is divided into 3 sub-areas of production occupied the valley of the Ebro, Rioja Alavesa, Rioja Alta and Rioja Baja. La Rioja Alavesa, wine has an area exceeding 11,000 hectares and produces the red wines that are ideal for daily use (young wines) and aged in oak barrels. La Rioja Alta, with more than 20,000 vineyard acres, produces wines of medium grade, high acidity, perfect for barrel aging. La Rioja Baja, influenced by a Mediterranean climate and vineyards of about 18,000 hectares, produces red wines of higher alcohol content.

Rioja wines belong to the 1 st of the appellation of origin to obtain the DOCa (QDO). The average annual production of Rioja wines is 250 million liters (75% of red wine and 25% white wine and pink). There are over 19,000 grape growers and more than 1,200 wineries producing wine Rioja, selling 70% of its production in Spain.

The personalized wine grape is Tempranillo Rioja, typical of the area and usually aged in oak barrels. Also, in red wines working with these strains: Garnacha, Graciano, Carignan, Maturana and monastel. As white grapes, the varieties used are: Viura, Garnacha Blanca, Malvasia, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Verdejo, tempranillo maturana white white.
